20/2/2005: The opening round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship, organised by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club (BDRC), takes place this coming weekend - February 23 and 24 - at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The championship is creating a huge level of interest throughout the GCC and on Sunday (20 February) no fewer than 85 Kuwaitis arrived over the Causeway with 24 of their Pro and Pro Street Drag racers.
The Kuwaiti cars, which include Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs, will be joined by a further 13 competitors on Monday (21 February) along with 60 more cars from around the region at the circuit?‚A´s Test & Tune. Monday?‚A´s Test & Tune starts at 19.00 and runs until 23.00.
The presence of the Kuwaiti drivers underlines the importance of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship and the opening round at the weekend has attracted many of the leading names from Kuwait Drag Racing such as Ali Al Faylakawi, Tariq Al Qadiri and Emad Al Jassim. Staying at the Al Bander resort the Kuwaiti drivers will be competing against strong local Bahraini opposition, among them Ali Aryan, Khalid Abdullah and Tariq Al Hadi and others from around the Gulf.
Tickets for the Test & Tune on Monday are BD2 and gates open at 18.00. The opening round of the five leg championship is BD5 for both Wednesday and Thursday, February 23 and 24. Tickets are available on 17450000, from ticket sales outlets at Bahrain International Airport, Seef Mall, Dana Mall or from sales booths at the circuit entrance.
