26/01/2005: The Bahrain International Circuit is working flat out in preparation prior to the forthcoming Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix on April 1,2 & 3. Numerous changes are being made to the facilities at the Sakhir track including a complete revision to the Formula One Paddock area. In keeping with the Oasis environment new palm trees are being planted throughout the Formula One Paddock to create a relaxing environment for the Formula One teams, their drivers, engineers, technicians and guests. The teams will be able to enjoy an Arabian atmosphere with traditional benches placed on new areas of grass throughout the paddock and under the shade of the palms.
The traditional Arab feel will be replicated in the spectator areas behind the Main Grandstand where those watching the race will be able to enjoy new seating areas and coffee shops or lounge on the grass under more palm trees which are being planted throughout the vending area. A traditional wooden Dow and the Bahrain Heritage tent, where Arabic coffee and traditional crafts will be dispensed and displayed, will add to the atmosphere.
It was the ambience of the circuit and the friendliness of the Bahraini people that was a big factor in the award at December’s prestigious FIA Gala Dinner in Monte Carlo of the 2004 Race Promoter’s Trophy to the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The award was won against stiff competition from a number of races including China, Australia and France and is a piece of silver ware that the Bahrain International Circuit is keen to hang on to during 2005!
