BIC, Sakhir:
It’s all about scrutineerings and sign-ups in the world of drag racing, today,
as racers prepare for the first round of the 2008 National Drag Racing
Championship, on Friday.
With the drag strip ready and awaiting all those tough enough to see whether
they will breakout or blowover, participants will get to choose which of the 11
categories they wish to go for, whilst bikers will get the option of three.
Racers will be able to register their cars, today, from 1700 to 2300, for any of
the categories which include pro mods, street, super street and outlaw.
The new “class” category will get to see racers of all categories go
head-to-head, be it a street car versus a pro mod or an outlaw versus the super
street, this will be a nail-biting sight to see.
The qualifiers will take place tomorrow, and the first race will kick off on
Friday. Prior to the qualifiers, drivers will get a preparatory session in rules
and regulations by Yassir Abdulla the race manager and secretary general of the
BDRC.
Having seen a greater turn out at the test and tunes, with participants from all
across the GCC, this season the club expects an even bigger crowd.
All eyes will be on the pro mods especially since over 11 participants, from
across the region, will be trying to hit the top end. This will be a definite
fight to the finish as Emirati defending champion Bader Al-Ahli will be the one
to defeat as he races in his new Mustang Super Charger this season.
Fans and spectators wishing to attend may do so for a fee between 3BD and 5BD,
and should they wish to hop in the driver’s seat, the Kart Zone will be open
today, Friday and Saturday.
