BIC, Sakhir:
The first round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship witnessed some
fierce fighting as the gloves came off last night.
The most intense competition was seen in the Pro Mod class as racers went
head-to-head to clinch the number one spot.
Fans watched on in anticipation as they saw Emirati Bader “Superman” Al-Ahli
break the record, in the only Mustang Supercharger in the GCC, with a time of
6.247 during the knockout stages. With such a wondrous start, the defending
champion gave a thrilling performance and came in second place, a triumph which
made up for coming seventh place during the qualifiers.
Unfortunately, his performance was not enough to see him to the finals and it
was Shannon Jenkins and Al-Anabi team driver Emirati Khaled Al Balooshi who
would go head-to-head. Jenkins won by reaction with a staggering 6.691 seconds
whilst Balooshi made it with a close 6.681 seconds. Mike Castalano, also from
Al-Anabi team, beat Emirati Ali Al-Kaabi from Al-Seem Performance and clinched
third place with 6.702 seconds.
The Bahrain Drag Racing Club surprised all who attended by announcing that
Al-Seem Performance Group would be sponsoring the 7.5sec Challenge Class the
whole season, and awarded winners of the Street and Super Street 50BD prizes.
During the all-new 7.5sec competition, fans got to see cars from all categories
hit the strip to find the fastest car, provided they did not break the 7.5
second dial-in. In first place was Saudi Hisham Al Mulla finishing with 7.771
seconds. Second place was snatched up by Kuwaiti Hussain Al-Aali, whilst third
was picked up by Kuwaiti Ahmed Nasser with 8.530 seconds.
The Kuwaitis showed no mercy this round, particularly in the motorbike racing
categories. During the Street Bike class, Kuwaiti Khalid Al Foozan picked up
first place with 8.933 and Kuwaiti Mohammed Alebdah was not far behind with
9.155 seconds. Fellow Kuwaiti Khaled Al Doosari walked away in third with 9.410
seconds.
As for the Super Street category, Saudi Mishal Al Turkey defeated the Kuwaitis
and came in first with 7.699 seconds. Kuwaiti Mohammed Al Yaqoot finished in
second with 8.102 seconds and Kuwaiti Sager Essa was in third with 8.487
seconds.
Kuwaiti Mishal Al Saber shone in the Pro Bike category and clinched first place
with 8.583 seconds. Kuwaiti Mohammed bu Rashed picked up second with 10.218,
whilst Kadhem Al Ali failed to complete the race.
The second round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship is all set to
