The drag strip witnessed a tough final “test and tune” round Friday night, in
preparation for the first round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship
due to kick off next week.
Hundreds of fans and participants made their way to the hidden depths of Sakhir
to watch rubber take to tarmac in what was a nail-biting practice. Over 11
racers were seen lining up, one-by-one, to test themselves for the “Pro Mod”
category. Emirati Bader “Superman” Al-Ahli was also seen on the track testing
his latest Mustang.
The “test and tune” round kicked off at 1900 and went on until the late hours of
2300, in which time many drivers were seen taking their machines to their
limits.
Fans were also got to see the gloves come partially off as Emiratis Bader
Al-Ahli and Khaled Al Belushi practiced in preparation to clinch the “Pro Mod”
title, the most popular category across the GCC and Arab world.
It is expected that the Championship will see the greatest battle in the “Pro
Mod” category especially since this is the first time ever that 11 drivers will
be setting the strip alight in the hope of speeding to victory.
Emirati Juma Al-Seem’s team is also amongst those participating in the “test and
tune”. Having participated and won last year’s “Outlaw” category, he is looking
for a clash with top racers for a thrilling and exciting fight to the finish.
As for the Qatari Al-Anabi team, they were excited to be competing alongside
American drag racer Shaun Jenkins who will be sitting behind his GTO’s steering
wheel, and having Mustafa Al-Atat race in the team’s Mustang will make for an
interesting series.
With the final “test and tune” round over, the first round is due to take place
next week. Car inspections and registrations, for all those participating, at
the BIC’s Car Maintenance Garages will be held on Wednesday from 1700 to 2300.
Qualifiers will be held on Thursday 1900 to 2300 and the first race will be seen
on the strip, for both cars and bikes, on Friday from 1900 to 2300.
For those wishing to watch the first intense round, tickets are priced between
3BD to 5BD and are available at BIC.
