9/2/2005: This evening, at the Bahrain International Circuit, cars will be lining up for the start of the First Drag Test and Tune Practice Session of the year. This session will take place between the hours of 16:00 and 21:00 pm. Another one of these Drag Test and Tune Practice Sessions will follow on the 21st of February. Each of these sessions will include more than 50 cars. The number of participants and cars will increase dramatically at the Drag Race taking place on the 24th of February.
Drag Racing is proving to be immensely popular in Bahrain, especially that some of the cars and drivers participating are from across the Gulf Region.
Therefore you can expect to see revved up cars roaring down the drag strip more often here at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Martin Whitaker, General Manager of BIC, emphasized the importance of such an event for both Bahrain and the Gulf Region: “After the resounding success of the first 2 drag races, we are happy to welcome racing fans to the first drag race of the year. We expect to register more than one hundred participants for the final race, some of whom will pour from nearby countries! The aim of the Bahrain International Circuit has always been to host the largest number of racing and automotive events, in which drag racing plays a significant role due to its immense popularity in the region among not only the youth but all members of the family. Staging a drag race is our way to promote the civilized aspect of motorsport where drivers can practice their hobby on a specialized track instead of endangering their life and the lives of others on the road.”
